Picture of the Week: July 2

Sisters of Providence from all over the world came home to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods this week for the Congregation's Annual Meeting. Traditionally, sisters celebrating anniversaries of membership are honored the weekend before in a Jubilee celebration.

Here, the general officers recognize two of their own celebrating jubilees, Sisters Nancy Reynolds and Sister Marie McCarthy. From left: Sisters Marsha Speth, Denise Wilkinson, Nancy Reynolds, Marie McCarthy, Paula Damiano and Jane Marie Osterholt.

Sisters of Providence in D.C. celebrate jubilee

The Archdiocese of Washington (D.C.) celebrated the 2009 jubilee of women religious in the area on March 6. Three Sisters of Providence who are in ministry in the diocese were invited to the celebration.

Sister Clelia Cecchetti, who sent us this information, said the celebration was originally scheduled for Feb. 7, but had to be postponed because of the "blizzard of 2010."

The Mass and dinner was held in the Chapel of the Pastoral Center. Archbishop Donald Wuerl was the main celebrant.

All three Sisters of Providence are pictured on the right. Sister Clelia is in the first row, second from the right; Sister Marie Denis Lucey is in the first row on the right; and Sister Marian Brady is in the second row on the right.

The photograph was taken by the Catholic Standard, the archdiocesan newspaper.

Picture of the Week: December 18

Each December, Sisters of Providence celebrate Jubilees marking the number of years since they have entered the Congregation. December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, is the usual date for celebrations. Shown is Sister Grace Stewart (center), who is currently celebrating a whopping 80 years as a Sister of Providence! (With her are General Officer Sister Jane Marie Osterholt, left, and General Superior Sister Denise Wilkinson.) Other sisters celebrated anniversaries of 60, 70, and 75 years. Congrats, sisters!
