Alleluia! Let us rejoice and be glad!

Located at the front of the Church of the
Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-
the-Woods, the crucifix was sculpted by
Harry Breen of Champaign, Ill.

Once again we sing Alleluia! We feast, for the One who died lives! Beyond the spirit of this special day, is the reality that Life has overcome death. Nothing can take our joy from us … no pain, sorrow or any other affliction. This is our faith!

Christ has not only been raised; He lives among us. He resides in us. He fills Earth in all its parts. Today we share His life and love with those around us.

Throughout the Easter season, the next 50 days, let us spread joy and nurture hope in those who struggle to be joyful and hopeful.

As our intentional Lenten practices connected us more with others in need, so let us in this Easter season be a life-giving and hope-filled presence for all with whom we live, work and relate.

Christ lives! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Stations of the Cross at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

One of the Stations of the Cross in the Church
of the Immaculate Conception at Saint
Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind.
Some of the first items installed in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods were the Stations of the Cross. They were made in Munich, Germany.

The Stations are sculptures that show various scenes of Jesus in his final hours before He died on the cross.

The Sisters of Providence also have the outdoor Stations of the Cross in Sacred Heart Grove at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

If you're planning to attend Easter Brunch at O'Shaughnessy, please allow time for praying at either of these Stations of the Cross this Easter.

Do you have a prayer request for the Sisters of Providence? If so, please leave them in the comments below.

Picture of the Week: April 29

Recently the lovely terazzo floor of the Church of the Immaculate Conception got waxed and prettied up. This meant that the pews were temporarily relegated to the hallways and the shiny reflective surface was more accessible than usual, tempting anyone who walked by to slide around on it in socks. (That was my temptation, at any rate.)

I took this picture from the sanctuary side:

which reminded of me of this picture of the church, taken from the end of the nave side in the early 1900s when the church was nearing completion. (The Church was officially consecrated in October 1907.) It's such a neat photo, don't you agree?

Picture of the Week: February 19

The monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament (consecrated host) sits on the altar of the Church of the Immaculate Conception after Mass on Sunday, Feb. 14. This began a 40-hour devotion in preparation for the Church season of Lent, which began with Ash Wednesday this week.

This monstrance usually resides in the beautiful Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

Picture of the Week: February 12

Snow, full of serenity and humor, blanketed Saint Mary-of-the-Woods this week. From Saint Mother Theodore Guerin appearing ready for a snowball fight (top right) to a snowman solemnly standing guard near frozen St. Joseph's Lake (bottom left), wonderful pictures abounded. (I couldn't pick just one.)
